Cynthia moved to the Yakima Valley two years ago excited for a fresh start. She looked forward to making connections, volunteering, and maybe even adopting a pet. But life had other plans. Cynthia began experiencing health issues that led to a shocking diagnosis: two separate cancers. Though caught early, the treatment required multiple major surgeries and time away from work. With no income and growing bills, Cynthia was afraid she’d lose her home.
That’s where the Helping Hands fund at MultiCare Cancer Institute at North Star Lodge stepped in.
“I can’t even put into words how grateful I am for the help I received,” Cynthia says. “I was out of work for two months, and the Helping Hands fund paid my utilities bills. Your support is literally the reason I was able to stay warm and at home while I recovered.”
The Helping Hands fund assists patients with urgent financial needs so they can focus on healing, not hardship. Through your support, the fund covers essentials like gas, groceries, and utilities.
“There’s already so much trauma when you’re told you have cancer,” she shares. “Then you add the financial stress that comes with being out of work — it’s overwhelming. Being able to stay in my home gave me hope that I’d make it through — I am so incredibly grateful.”
